Md. Pols Seek Modern Communication Services Sales Tax

Law360, New York (March 25, 2014, 3:12 PM EDT) -- Maryland lawmakers and technology companies on Tuesday voiced their support for a bill that would update the state's system for taxing communication services by imposing a flat 4 percent sales and use tax on cable, satellite, Internet and cell phone services.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairwoman Sheila E. Hixson, D-Montgomery, said the bill would replace Maryland's current patchwork of regulations that tax competing communication services at different rates with a uniform sales tax.
