Manhattan DA Says Workers' Comp Fraud Is Widespread

Law360, New York (March 25, 2014, 2:26 PM EDT) -- Workers' compensation insurance premium fraud is so commonplace that it costs the city's construction industry hundreds of millions of dollars a year alone, the Manhattan district attorney said on Tuesday, calling for new laws to root out violators and increase penalties.

The disturbing findings came from independent studies and a grand jury investigation into the vulnerability of New York’s workers’ compensation insurance system to fraud and misuse, said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr.
