Dish Pushes Senate For Retrans Changes In STELA Renewal

Law360, New York (March 26, 2014, 2:59 PM EDT) -- Dish Network urged lawmakers on Wednesday to use the necessary renewal of the soon-expiring Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act as a vehicle to make major changes to the way pay-TV providers and broadcasters negotiate over retransmission consent.

The push comes one day after a House subcommittee approved a mostly so-called clean reauthorization bill for STELA, which provides compulsory copyright licenses for satellite companies to import “distant” TV network programming into areas that don't receive it through the air.
