Chinese Cos. Face Record Damages In Copyright Suits

Law360, New York (April 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Chinese subsidiaries of several Western companies have reportedly sued two Chinese Internet firms, alleging that the defendants made illegal music downloads available. The suit seeks the largest damages claim ever for the music industry in China.

One suit against Baidu.com Inc. is looking to recover $9 million in damages, while the other action against Sohu.com Inc.’s subsidiary, Sogou, is seeking damages worth $7.5 million, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.
