UMG, Sony, Warner Plotted Copyright Ambush, Amway Says

Law360, Los Angeles (April 4, 2014, 8:43 PM EDT) -- Amway Corp. hit UMG Recordings Inc., Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group Corp. with a contract-breach suit in Florida federal court Friday, accusing them of failing to notify Amway of any copyright infringement allegations by an Amway distributor.

Health and beauty marketing firm Amway and its parent company, Alticor Inc., claim the record companies conspired to break a 1998 agreement, under which UMG, Sony and Warner promised to provide notice of copyright infringement allegations by Amway distributors so that Amway could investigate and stop them....
