Google Wins 7th Circ. Android Trademark Row

Law360, Los Angeles (April 4, 2014, 8:37 PM EDT) -- The Seventh Circuit on Friday sided with Google in a dispute with a software entrepreneur over the Android name, finding that the company that anchored the trademark had abandoned its name in 2002.

The panel was unpersuaded by plaintiff Erich Specht’s pleas to keep the trademark that once covered his Android Data Corp., a company that sold e-commerce software before it went belly-up, finding instead that, for all commercial purposes, the mark was abandoned long before Google began using it in 2007, according to the decision....
