GOP Rep. Defends Bill To Cut DOD's Civilian Workforce

Law360, New York (April 14, 2014, 6:25 PM EDT) -- A Republican lawmaker on Friday defended a recently introduced bill that would slash the U.S. Department of Defense's civilian workforce by 15 percent, saying cutting civilian workers is the best option in light of other budget proposals to cut the number of uniformed officers.

Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., expressed support for the Rebalance for an Effective Defense Uniform and Civilian Employees Act, or REDUCE Act, introduced last month by Calvert and five other Republican lawmakers in response to President Barack Obama's administration cuts that would see the U.S. Army reduced to its lowest levels since before World War II.
