Applera, Bio-Rad End Patent Battle Over PCR

Law360 (February 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Marking the end of a nearly eight year battle, beleaguered Applera Corporation has reached a settlement in its long-simmering patent dispute with MJ Research Inc. over polymerase chain reaction (PCR) instruments, a billion-dollar venture in the life sciences industry.

On Friday, co-plaintiff Roche Molecular Systems, Inc. announced that California research firm Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc., MJ Research’s parent company, will pay both Roche and Applera an undisclosed sum to settle the outstanding claims.
