Govt. Will Not Charge Lerach, Weiss In Kickback Probe

Law360, New York (February 21, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A five-year investigation into whether famed plaintiffs lawyers William Lerach and Melvyn Weiss paid off lead plaintiffs will not end in indictments of the attorneys, with sources close to the investigation reporting that in a few weeks the Department of Justice will end its probe without filing charges against the two lawyers.

While the government will continue to investigate charges that some plaintiffs attorneys repeatedly paid investors to serve as lead plaintiffs in class action lawsuits, Lerach and Weiss are no longer targets of the investigation,...
