Monsanto In $200M Settlement Over Hormone Patents

Law360, New York (February 27, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Regents of the University of California are walking away with a big win for their intellectual property, with chemical firm Monsanto Co. handing over $100 million to end a patent infringement lawsuit over a hormone for dairy cows.

The settlement was announced barely one year after the school asserted a single patent for bovine somatotropin, sold under the brand name Posilac, against Monsanto in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
