Met Life, Unum, Prudential In $1.1M Settlement

Law360, New York (May 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Three insurance companies have agreed to pay a total of $1.1 million to settle accusations that they paid a San Diego insurance broker to steer business to them.

Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. will pay $500,000. Prudential Insurance Company of America will shell out $350,000. And Unum Group will pay $250,000. None of the companies admitted liability, San Diego District Attorney Bonnie M. Dumanis said.

The settlement also calls for the insurers to start disclosing all payments to independent insurance brokers.
