Movie Studios Reap $111M Damages Award

Law360, New York (May 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ordered an Internet search engine to pay six major movie studios $111 million for directing users to Web sites that offered copyrighted video files.

On Wednesday, Judge Florence-Marie Cooper of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California entered a judgment against Valence Media LLC for willful inducement of copyright infringement, contributory copyright infringement and vicarious copyright infringement.

Valence Media LLC is the parent company of the now-defunct TorrentSpy Web site.
