Sheppard Mullin Joins BigLaw Layoffs With Secretary Cuts

By Kurt Orzeck (July 11, 2014, 6:34 PM EDT) -- Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP will offer voluntary buyouts to its California-based secretaries age 65 and older, joining a long list of large law firms making headcount cuts in the last year, a spokesman for the firm confirmed to Law360 on Friday.

Chief Operating Officer Ted Tinson told employees in an internal memorandum emailed to all employees at the firm Tuesday that the limited reductions in office administration are the result of the legal industry becoming more efficient amid advances in technology, the spokesman said.
