Goldman Sachs In Talks To Settle FHFA Suit Over MBS Losses

Law360, Washington (July 28, 2014, 2:46 PM EDT) -- Goldman Sachs & Co. is in talks to settle a lawsuit brought by the Federal Housing Finance Agency alleging it knowingly sold billions of dollars of toxic residential mortgage-backed securities to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a person familiar with the matter said on Monday.

The bank’s deal talks come two months before a September trial date in the New York federal court lawsuit. The suits have brought in major settlements from other banks like Morgan Stanley, which paid $1.25 billion earlier this year to dodge the suit.
