'Sugar Pill' Buyers Win Class Cert. In Homeopathy Suit

By David McAfee (August 4, 2014, 4:21 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Friday certified a nationwide consumer class action brought against alternative medicine giant Standard Homeopathic Co. and its wholly owned subsidiary Hyland's Inc. for allegedly misleading tens of thousands of purchasers into believing their products were effective for various ailments.

U.S. District Judge Dolly M. Gee certified a class that includes all purchasers of 10 of the defendants' homeopathic remedies, including Calms Forte, Teething Tablets, Migraine Headache Relief and Colic Tablets, from February 2008 to the present. The defendants sell the homeopathic remedies without explaining to customers that at their practiced dilution levels, "very little, if any"...
