NYC Transit Needs $27B To Brace For Global Warming: MTA

Law360, New York (August 7, 2014, 3:57 PM EDT) -- Greater New York City's sprawling public transportation system needs $27 billion by 2019 — and $106 billion in 20 years' time — to guard against climate change, install train safety technology and extend the network's reach for millions of projected new riders, a top Metropolitan Transportation Authority executive told state lawmakers Thursday.

MTA CEO Thomas Prendergast's comments came at a downtown Manhattan hearing called by State Assemblyman James F. Brennan that comes in the weeks ahead of the MTA's planned finalization of its 2015-2019 capital proposal....
