N.Y. Prisons Settle Bias Suit With Female Guards

Law360, New York (May 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A group of female guards in New York's prisons has won $1 million in a deal with the state's Department of Corrections to resolve claims of sex discrimination and breaches of the Equal Pay Act.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Tuesday the Corrections Department would pay $972,000 in damages and back pay to the 23 female current and former corrections officers to drop the lawsuit.
