AutoCAD OK For EBay Resale Despite Copyright: Judge

Law360, New York (May 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge sent shock waves through the software design community last week, denying summary judgment to Autodesk Inc., the maker of the blockbuster design software AutoCAD, which claimed its copyrights prohibit the resale of its products on eBay.

Judge Richard A. Jones of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington refused Autodesk's motion to dismiss a lawsuit by Timothy S. Vernor, who seeks protection from Autodesk's copyright claims when he sells their product on the Internet auction site.
