Courts Not Warming To Climate Change Torts

Law360, New York (May 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Several significant tort lawsuits have been filed by plaintiffs who seek damages allegedly caused by global warming. The most recent of these lawsuits received a splash of media attention and public interest. On Feb. 26, 2008, the governing bodies of an Alaskan Inupiat village of approximately 400 people filed a lawsuit in San Francisco federal court against dozens of oil companies, electric power companies, and coal mining interests.
