Gateway, Acer Face Microprocessor Patent Suit

Law360, New York (June 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two patent-licensing firms have fired off infringement suits against Acer Inc., Gateway Inc. and other consumer electronics companies over their co-owned microprocessor patent.

Technology Properties Ltd. and Patriot Scientific Corp. on Wednesday lodged three suits in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging the companies violated their “high performance, low-cost microprocessor” patent issued in June 1996.

One suit took aim at Taiwan-based Acer, its San Jose, Calif.-based subsidiary and Irvine, Calif.-based Gateway. Another targeted Taiwan’s Asustek Computer Inc., and a third rounded...
