Chinese Search Engine Faces Copyright Suit In U.S.

Law360, New York (June 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Chinese online music provider said it has hit China's leading Internet search engine with a copyright infringement suit in the United States for allowing users to download music illegally.

The plaintiff, 5fad.com, said it filed the suit against the popular search engine Baidu.com on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The suit accuses Baidu.com of allowing users to listen to 5fad.com's copyrighted music through its Web site and to download the songs.
