Verizon, RCC Agree To Divest Overlapping Assets

Law360, New York (June 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Hours after Vermont state Attorney General William H. Sorrell filed suit to block a proposed merger between Verizon Communications Inc. and Rural Cellular Corp., the companies entered into a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice, Sorrell announced Tuesday.

The settlement with Verizon and RCC, which operates Unicel, resolves the lawsuit and allows the merger to go forward as long as the merged company sells all overlapping assets in Vermont, enabling the creation of a new service provider to compete in a wireless market previously dominated...
