Ropes & Gray Sued By Drugmaker Over Patent Filing Blunder

Law360, New York (October 22, 2014, 4:56 PM EDT) -- The Medicines Co. has slapped Fish & Neave LLP and Ropes & Gray LLP with a legal malpractice suit in New Jersey claiming Fish & Neave blew the deadline for a critical patent filing associated with the company's anticoagulant drug Angiomax.

In an Oct. 10 complaint in Morris County Superior Court, Parsippany, New Jersey-based MDCO contends that missing the deadline for the patent term extension application, or PTE, put the company at risk of losing about 4 1/2 years of market exclusivity in the U.S. for its flagship product, which represents about $2 billion in sales.
