9th Circ. Shreds Stan Lee Media's Iron Man Lawsuit

Law360, Los Angeles (October 29, 2014, 6:24 PM EDT) -- The Ninth Circuit on Wednesday tossed Stan Lee Media Inc.'s lawsuit against its former president, comic book legend Stan Lee, alleging it owns characters he created or co-created, including Spider-Man, Iron Man and the X-Men, calling the company's claim "simply implausible."

The panel said Stan Lee Media's inaction undermined its assertion: The company never once claimed it owned the rights to the valuable characters or tried to license them between 1998, when the company says Stan Lee assigned the company rights to the characters, and 2007, when it filed suit.
