U. Of Pittsburgh Owns Stem Cell Patent: Judge

Law360, New York (June 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A district judge has ruled that the University of Pittsburgh and its licensee Artecel Inc. control the rights to a patent on stem cells derived from fat, dealing a blow to the rival claimants, the University of California and its licensee Cytori Therapeutics, Artecel announced Thursday.

Judge Consuelo B. Marshall of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California ruled on June 9 that two University of Pittsburgh scientists, Adam J. Katz and Ramon Llull, are the sole inventors of the disputed patent. The...
