Hot Topic Axed Worker For Reporting Fraud, Suit Claims

Law360, New York (November 18, 2014, 7:31 PM EST) -- Hot Topic Inc. was slapped Friday with a suit in Los Angeles court by a former division manager who alleges she and other aggrieved employees were retaliated against for informing the retailer’s executives of accounting irregularities before its $600 million sale to private equity firm Sycamore Partners LLC was completed.

Lead plaintiff Nicole Nyhan brought the complaint under the Private Attorneys General Act, claiming she was fired in May 2013 from her position as a divisional merchandising manager after she reported that another buyer was manipulating Hot Topic’s purchase and inventory system by entering fabricated purchase orders and lower wholesale prices,...
