Law360, Chicago (December 3, 2014, 8:22 PM EST) -- Zimmer Holdings Inc. has won the first round in sprawling litigation over its allegedly defective Durom Cup hip replacement, earning a unanimous defense verdict at a bellwether trial in Illinois.
On Nov. 26, a jury in St. Clair County Circuit Court sided with the Indiana-based medical device maker after a three-week trial, sinking John Pugliese’s suit alleging the company knowingly peddled a faulty hip implant that was prone to fail and cause its recipients misery.
The victory came in the first Durom case to go to trial and could bode well for the company’s prospects in some 350 other product liability...
