Merger of Funeral Home Chains Stirs Ire

Law360, New York (April 5, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The two largest funeral home chains in the United States have announced plans to merge this week, drawing fire from industry professionals who fear the deal will kill off already rare competition in the funeral business.

The combined company, which would generate an estimated $2.5 billion per year, comes at a lucrative time for the funeral home industry, as a large population of baby boomers ages.
