Ex-Editor Claims TripAdvisor Misclassifies Workers

Law360, New York (July 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- TripAdvisor LLC, the travel Web site owned by Expedia Inc., has been hit with a lawsuit from a former employee alleging that the company violates Massachusetts law by misclassifying its employees as independent contractors.

In a putative class action filed July 2 in Norfolk Superior Court, former Web content editor Deirdre Kiely alleges that by wrongly classifying Web content editors as independent contractors, TripAdvisor prevents them from receiving benefits employees are entitled to under state law, such as workers' compensation and unemployment payments if they lose...
