Citigroup Wins Business Method Patent Appeal

Law360 (April 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has given an electronic-trading technology unit of Citigroup Inc. a second shot at proving that two trading companies infringed on a patent covering securities-trading technology, reviving a formerly dismissed patent suit tossed by a lower court last year.

Lava Trading Inc. originally brought the charges in 2004 against Royalblue PLC and Bank of New York Co.'s Sonic Trading Management in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
