Encryption Patent Holder Tags Microsoft In Suit

Law360, New York (July 16, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Microsoft Corp.’s encrypting file software is the subject of an infringement suit brought by a Wilmington, Del.-based patent holder.

MAZ Technologies Inc. lodged the suit on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging that the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant’s Encrypting File System software, which is part of Microsoft’s Windows operating system products, has encroached upon two patents.

One patent, U.S. Patent Number 7,096,358, describes an encrypting file system and was issued in August 2006.
