Judge Won't Dismiss LED Patent Suit Against Cree

Law360 (July 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Cree Inc. has lost its summary judgment bid in a patent infringement suit filed by a retired Columbia University professor over light-emitting diode semiconductors.

Judge William C. Conner of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York rejected

Cree's summary judgment bid on Monday.

In the case, professor Gertrude Neumark Rothschild alleges the LED semiconductor maker has infringed two of her patents.

Durham, N.C.-based Cree had sought summary judgment that it did not infringe Rothschild’s wide band-gap semiconductors patent, U.S. Patent No. 5,252,499....
