Watchdog Group Sues FAA Over Lack Of Drone Privacy Rules

Law360, Los Angeles (March 31, 2015, 10:36 PM EDT) -- A privacy watchdog group filed a petition Tuesday with the D.C. Circuit asking the federal appeals court to review the Federal Aviation Administration's proposed rule on commercial drone use announced in February, saying the agency did not create privacy safeguards mandated by Congress.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center contends that Congress required the FAA to develop a "comprehensive plan" for drone deployment in the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012. EPIC's petition asks the appellate court to hold unlawful the FAA's withholding of proposed drone privacy rules from its February order.
