Zillow Hobbles Real Estate Rival's Trade Secrets Suit
By Beth Winegarner (April 13, 2015, 7:28 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Monday largely dismissed Top Agent Network Inc.'s suit accusing rival real-estate source Zillow Inc. of stealing trade secrets related to a proprietary "upcoming listings" feature, finding that TAN failed to specify what information Zillow took that constituted trade secrets under California law.
U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg granted Zillow's motion to dismiss, in which it sought an end to 12 of TAN's 13 claims. While the judge found that TAN's trade-secrets allegations failed under the California Uniform Trade Secrets Act, he found that many of its other claims, including those for fraud and negligent were superseded...
