Snack Companies Cave To Pressure Over Toxin

Law360, New York (August 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Bowing to pressure from the California attorney general, H.J. Heinz Co., Frito-Lay Inc., Kettle Foods Inc. and Lance Inc. have agreed to settle a long-standing suit brought over a carcinogenic contaminant found in their potato chips and french fries.

California Attorney General Edmund Brown Jr. said on Monday that the companies will lower the levels of acrylamide in their products and will pay $3 million in collective fines in exchange for dropping the cases.
