Trustee Protests Countrywide's Deal With Pa.

Law360, New York (August 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. trustee's office has balked at the tentative deal that Countrywide reached with Pennsylvania over abusive lender practices, maintaining that the truce has the potential to hinder the trustee's larger investigation.

On Monday, U.S. Trustee Roberta A. DeAngelis objected to the deal, arguing that the arrangement would unfairly tie her hands as she seeks to question both a Countrywide client and Ronda Winnecour, the Chapter 13 trustee for the district of Western Pennsylvania.
