USPTO Delivers Blow To Forgent’s JPEG Claims

Law360 (May 26, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a move sure to inspire cheers from many of the world’s largest technology companies, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has rejected the broadest claims of Forgent Networks Inc.’s controversial patent covering Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) image technology.

On Thursday, the agency found that part of Forgent’s JPEG patent had been anticipated by prior art submitted by the Public Patent Foundation (PubPat), a key blow to the patentability of Forgent’s technology.
