Newspaper Group Pushes To Block Google-Yahoo Pact

Law360, New York (September 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The World Association of Newspapers has joined the growing opposition to the impending advertising pact between Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc., arguing on Monday that the deal will harm advertising revenues that the search engines provide to online news publications.

The Paris-based trade group, which represents 18,000 newspapers worldwide, sent letters to directors of the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division, the European Commission's Competition Directorate and the Competition Bureau of Canada, urging them to block the deal.
