House OKs Ban On Diverting Great Lakes Water

Law360 (September 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives swiftly approved the Great Lakes Basin Compact on Wednesday, passing the measure for preventing diversions from the five lakes on to the White House for a final blessing.

The compact, a multi-state plan that would ban all new or increased diversions from the Great Lakes, cleared the House with a 395-25 vote, just over a month after the U.S. Senate approved the measure. President George W. Bush has already said he will sign off on it, too.
