RealNetworks DVD Program Triggers Copyright Scuffle

Law360, New York (September 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A salvo of lawsuits accompanied the unveiling Tuesday of RealNetworks Inc.’s new DVD copying program, RealDVD, as the Internet media company launched a declaratory suit against a phalanx of major movie studios that are trying to ban the software for violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Seeking to head off allegations that RealDVD violates copyright protections, RealNetworks will sue for declaratory judgment against DVD Copy Control Association and Hollywood’s major movie studios, the company announced Tuesday.
