Vehicle Auctioneers Settle Patent, Antitrust Claims

Law360 (June 28, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two U.S. vehicle auctioneers have resolved a dispute over patent infringement allegations fueled by an online auction system and alleged antitrust violations in the vehicle auction market.

Manheim Services Corp. amicably settled the patent spat with Copart Inc., which auctions salvage cars for insurers, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia on Tuesday.

Copart, based in Fairfield, Calif., also dropped counterclaims accusing Manheim Auctions Inc.’s unit of stifling competition in the auction market. Both parties denied any liability for the claims....
