Sony, Panasonic DVD Patents Infringed: German Court

Law360, New York (October 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A German court has ruled that Greece-based DVD manufacturer Odeon Cineplex SA has infringed patents for DVD technology held by numerous companies, including Panasonic Corp. and Sony Corp.

MPEG LA LLC, a patent-licensing company that works with the patent holders, announced Tuesday that the District Court of Dusseldorf has returned verdicts of infringement against Odeon in 12 different cases.

The court found that Odeon's production of DVDs infringes patents for MPEG-2 technology, the system that underlies the creation and storage of digitized movie images on DVDs....
