Doctor Testifies Merck Knew Of Vioxx Risk

Law360, New York (July 6, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. knew its former blockbuster drug Vioxx increased the risk of heart attacks and strokes, a doctor testified Wednesday in one of the many high-profile cases over the painkiller.

Dr. Lemuel Moye, a physician and professor of biostatistics at the University of Texas, took the witness stand in a California court, concluding that Vioxx carried more risks than benefits for patients and that this was shown by studies before the product went on the market.
