House OKs Coast Guard Authorization, STB Independence Bill
Law360, New York (December 10, 2015, 5:13 PM EST) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday passed an $18.2 billion bill reauthorizing the U.S. Coast Guard and a $175 million bill to reauthorize the Surface Transportation Board and establish it as an agency independent of the U.S. Department of Transportation, with expanded authority.
Lawmakers agreed by bipartisan voice vote to both H.R. 4188, the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2015, and S. 808, the Surface Transportation Board Reauthorization Act of 2015, which broadly set out policy objectives and spending authority for the agencies.
