Jury Taps Wyeth For $3M In Fen-Phen Suit

Law360, New York (October 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A New Jersey state jury has awarded a woman $3 million after determining that Wyeth's diet drug Pondimin, one of the two drugs that constitute fen-phen, caused her to develop a life-threatening lung disease. The verdict comes less than two weeks after Wyeth prevailed in a similar case in Pennsylvania.

The pharmaceutical giant has been instructed to pay Gloria Ann Stribling, a 60-year-old former medical records clerk who was diagnosed with the lung-destroying disease primary pulmonary hypertension in 2006, 10 years after she stopped taking Pondimin....
