Tobacco Cos. Fight Punitives After $10M Engle Verdict

Law360, Los Angeles (December 21, 2015, 10:27 PM EST) -- The husband of a woman who died of lung cancer urged a Florida jury Monday to award punitive damages against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and Philip Morris USA Inc., adding to a $10 million compensatory verdict awarded last week, saying the companies conspired to hide the dangers of smoking.

Adam Trop of Trop Law Group, representing Roland Ledoux, told jurors in Miami during opening arguments in the punitive phase of the trial that the companies had deceived Ledoux's wife for 40 years.
