Retail Chain Settles EEOC Suit Over Ethnic Taunts

Law360, New York (October 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- National Wholesale Liquidators Inc. has agreed to settle a class action brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging a store manager subjected a group of South Asian workers to religious and ethnic taunts.

The New York-headquartered discount chain will fork over $249,000 to resolve the suit as part of a consent decree filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The company has also agreed to implement anti-discrimination and harassment training for supervisors and managers.
