Sanyo Follows Philips Into License Deal With Acacia

Law360 (July 11, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Japan’s Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. on Tuesday abandoned its spirited defense against patent infringement claims from Acacia Research Corp., the patent-holding company that sued it over audio and video transmission technologies.

The suit was pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, where three Acacia subsidiaries zeroed in on Osaka-based Sanyo and other electronics makers in September 2005.

The suit involved seven patents that cover noise reduction filtering systems used to enhance audio-video and image resolution.
