Buffett's Berkshire Trademark Challenged By NJ Realty Firm
Law360, New York (January 15, 2016, 6:00 PM EST) -- Billionaire Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway companies were slapped with a trademark infringement lawsuit Thursday by a southern New Jersey real estate enterprise alleging Buffett’s firms usurped the name that helped build the family-owned company’s brand recognition.
In a complaint filed in federal court in New Jersey, Berkshire Properties Inc. and parent company Berkshire Holdings LLC accuse Buffett’s Philadelphia-area Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach of using the Berkshire name without authorization since 2013.
That unauthorized use has caused confusion in the media and among the plaintiff’s contractors and current and prospective tenants, according to the complaint.
