Ex-Gas Trader Gets Prison Time For Faking Deals

Law360, New York (November 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A former El Paso Corp. natural gas trader will serve 10 months in prison for lying about transactions in an industry newsletter in order to manipulate markets, the U.S. attorney's office said Monday.

The ex-trader, 47-year-old Donald Burwell, was sentenced to the prison time and three years of supervised release Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division.

Burwell admitted to Judge Vanessa Gilmore that in 2000 he knowingly reported false data about natural gas trades to the industry newsletter...
